The Schoodic Ferry is a unique concept that combines passenger service between Winter Harbor and Bar Harbor (see map below) and baseline environmental data collection for oceanographic assessments of the Frenchman Bay. Local and international scientists develop and conduct long-term marine mammal, pelagic bird, bait fish, and plankton surveys, helping the Frenchman Bay community develop an ecosystem level understanding of the Bay and its inhabitants.
Discover the raw beauty of Acadia National Park and Maine’s rugged coastline aboard the Schoodic Ferry. We connect passengers, their bicycles, and leashed pets between the Mount Desert Island and Schoodic Peninsula sections of Acadia National Park in an experience that may become the highlight of your vacation. Relax as you cruise between Bar Harbor and Winter Harbor, unconcerned about traffic or parking during your 45-minute yellow boat ride. Encounter lobstermen hauling traps or greet a harbor porpoise surfing the waves, all while you learn about the intricate workings of Frenchman Bay from scientists.
