The Tides Institute campus of three nearby buildings is located in the historic downtown waterfront area of Eastport. Our main building is physically located at 43 Water Street in the heart of the downtown. The building is an 1887 former bank building nearing complete restoration and which offers sweeping views of nearby islands in neighboring New Brunswick, Canada.
The cultural Collections and Library of the Tides Institute & Museum of Art are extensive and wide ranging – from historical to contemporary. The Collections have a particular focus on art, broadly conceived, but also have strong interests with architecture and history. The focuses of the collections are on the U.S./Canada northeast coast with connections to the broader world and with particular interests in the immediate coastal border region. The collections include paintings, prints, photographs, and sculpture; Passamaquoddy and Micmac basketry; architectural documentation and artifacts; ship models; maps; decorative arts (furniture, silver, glass); musical instruments; books; and graphic arts.
