40th anniversary of the Great Schooner Race, North America’s largest annual gathering of tall ships!

From Islesboro to Rockland Harbor, the 2016 Great Schooner Race: Maine’s tall ship fleet gathers for an exciting race from Islesboro to Rockland, followed by a festive Awards Ceremony/Party with live music. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Great Schooner Race, North America’s largest annual gathering of tall ships! More than two dozen tall ships gather for an exciting all-day race in which guests may participate. Pre-Race festivities include fireworks and small boat races.

The Great Schooner Race takes place on Friday, July 8, 2016 from 9:45 am to 6:00 pm. See schedule below.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS :


Thursday, July 7

Late afternoon raft-up in Gilkey Harbor. All vessels welcome. Informal small boat races and other salty competitions.

Race Day: Friday, July 8

Islesboro — Rockland Harbor

8:00 am          Captains' Meeting aboard Victory Chimes.

10:00 am        Cannon signal for Flying Jib Class

10:15 am        Cannon signal for Coaster Class

10:30 am        Cannon signal for Leeward Class

10:45 am        Cannon signal for Windward Class

2-4:00 pm      Finish at Rockland Breakwater

7:00 pm         Great Schooner Sweets Potluck at Sharp's Point South

7:30 pm         Awards Ceremony

8:00 pm        Musical Entertainment by Playin' Possum
