Opening art reception for three local artists who are sharing their experiences with the natural world through a variety of art media on Friday, September 1st from 5-8 p.m. at the Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center and Art Gallery in Rockland, Maine.

Gordon Bok of Camden is both an accomplished songwriter and woodcarver. He began relief carving when he inherited his mother’s carving tools. Gordon’s art reflects his attraction to boats and people; he has done many carvings about the fisheries that are all around us. Like his music, these carvings are a way to enter more deeply into his world.

Lois Anne, poet and artist has maintained a studio in Rockland since the early 80’s working with a variety of media. Art for Lois is an interpretation of experience. She sees her visual work primarily as visual poems about states of perception and feeling. She will share her paintings and mixed media that reflect aspects of our natural world.

Julie Cyr of Belfast just received People’s Choice in the Maine Coastal Islands Juried Art Show for her red fox oil on wood. Julie finds her inspiration in the wonder of daily life. She paints the landscapes, barns and wildlife that she experiences daily along mid-coast Maine.

Address: 9 Water Street in Rockland, Maine, ME 04841
